Last time you talked about joining an AARP chapter.
Right. Chapter 421. We were the oldest chapter in Maryland. Had the lowest chapter number.
And you got involved?
Almost right away. At the first meeting I filled out an application. You know. Name and address. Phone number. Interests.
And?
Well, of course I mentioned newsletters.
And the current editor turned writing the chapter newsletter over to me.
That was the start. Pretty soon I was elected to serve on the Board of Directors.
Before long I was elected Secretary. And Vice President. And then President.
You reached the top.
Actually, you could say I reached it three times. Two years each time. I served as President in each of three decades.
How so?
I was Chapter President in 1993 and ’94. In 2003 and ’04. And in 2010 and 2011. A total of six years. That was more time than any other President. I looked up the chapter history.
Now I’ll fast-forward into the future. When I eventually got into computers, it opened new possibilities.
I was able to create the newsletter digitally and attach my newsletter to emails to our online members. Also, after teaching myself a few tricks, I built and maintained a Website for the chapter.
Next time I’ll talk about things we did.
Okay. See you then.
